AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

1. General Provisions

The development of Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, Claude, and specialized medical algorithms, has ushered in a new era in scientific content preparation. For the otorhinolaryngology community, this means accelerating the analysis of clinical cases and systematizing large volumes of data. However, the use of these technologies requires a strict ethical framework to preserve scientific integrity.

The responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the material rests solely with the author (a human). 

2. Acceptable Uses of AI

  • Editing and Stylistics: The use of tools (e.g., Grammarly) for checking spelling, grammar, and improving writing style.
  • Data Analysis: he application of AI for processing large datasets, provided that the results are thoroughly verified by the author.
  • Translation: Preliminary translation of the text followed by mandatory proofreading by a human subject-matter expert.

3. Prohibited Uses of AI

The editorial board of the journal 'Otorhinolaryngology' emphasizes that AI is not a subject of scientific inquiry. 

Prohibited Actions:

  • Generation of Clinical Data: Creating patient descriptions, medical histories, or surgical results that did not occur in reality (data fabrication).
  • Diagnostic Conclusions Without Verification: Using AI-generated interpretations of CT/MRI scans without confirmation by a certified specialist.
  • Concealing the Use of Technology: Presenting text entirely written by a machine as one's own intellectual product.

4. Disclosure Requirements

The following policies are mandatory for all manuscripts submitted to the journal:

  1. Declaration: If AI tools were used in the preparation of the article (excluding basic spell-checking), the author must disclose this in the "Methods" section or in a separate note following the main text.
  2. Format: «During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [Model Name] for the purpose of [description of the task, e.g., stylistic editing]. The authors bear full responsibility for the content of the publication».

Responsibility: The author guarantees that all citations and data selected by AI have been verified for compliance with the original sources.
